Stupid States
Dateline Oregon......
We were going to post on a Fox News piece that reported fire crew supervisors were being fired in Oregon for not being able to speak Spanish. However, in doing our due diligence on news stories, we find the report to be factually erroneous. Go here, and read the truth on this topic:

So it turns out that it was Fox News being stupid, because we here at TheStupidNation.com are not professional journalists, and it took us about 30-40 seconds to determine this story was false.
Dateline New Jersey......
The NJ Legislature is considering a ban on all rifles .50 caliber or over. Sounds like a right fine idea right?
Wrong. The devil is always in the details.
The central issue to this legislation was the long range Barrett BMG .50 caliber BMG sniper rifle (and similar rifles now offered by a few competitors). The weapon is one of the rare ones that was originally introduced to the civilian long range sport shooting market, and later adapted by the military. Anti-gun proponents claim this is an "evil" weapon and should be banned from civilian ownership. However, the anti-gun nuts are never ones to miss an opportunity to ban firearms, so they helped the Democratic sponsors of this legislation craft a law so broad it banned any weapon .50 cal or larger. Still not troubled by that? Keep reading.
What other weapons are out there in .50 caliber flavor you wonder? Try almost every musket from the Revolutionary War on to the Civil War. That's right, the gun banning crowd considers the muskets that secured our nation's independence as "evil". The muskets that freed African Americans from the scourge of slavery - "evil".
And this, of course, is stupid.
As we understand it, the law was amended in committee to try to address some of the aforementioned stupidity, but it sounds like the amending was incomplete, and there are still antique weapons and curios that will fall under this ban if passed as is. As written, it will impact Revolutionary and Civil War re-enactors. It will impact families that have cherished family heirlooms handed down from generation to generation - the law prevents them from being willed to a beneficiary.
The rationale for this law is that the Government considers these weapons a public safety hazard. Well, the problem there is that a .50 caliber sniper rifle has never been used in a crime anywhere in the United States. The exotic firearm is very large, heavy, impossible to conceal, and costs anywhere from a low of $3,500 to $10,000 or more 'properly' equipped. Furthermore, as far as we have been able to determine, a musket has not been used in crime anywhere in the world for a very long time. A public safety hazard? The anti-gun crowd is counting on stupidity to get this turd legislation passed.
The law now awaits a vote in the heavily Democratic State Legislature. We will be pleasantly shocked if it's defeated.
