The Candidate of Change offers up some tired old ideas
As we have discussed before, an awful lot of people pegged their hopes on an empty vessel named Barack Obama. They filled the empty vessel with their hopes and prayers that he means it when he tosses around the word "change". Many of these people aren't digging any deeper into what Barack Obama really stands for because deep down inside, they know they will be disappointed. Americans have a great talent for denial of reality - of refusing to confront problems until they become nearly fatal. It's a puzzling national disorder.
As the old adage goes 'You can't fix the roof when it's raining, and when the sun is shining you don't need to fix the roof because it's not leaking'. Too many people practice this in their daily lives, and in large part it's to blame for the predicament we find ourselves in.
We are listening to Barack Obama regarding the energy crisis, we are unimpressed in the extreme. Recently Senator McCain called for, among other things, a 300 million dollar prize for new high efficient battery technology. What was Obama's response? The 300 mil prize was "not enough"....
"When John F. Kennedy decided that we were going to put a man on the moon, he didn't put a bounty out for some rocket scientist to win—he put the full resources of the United States government behind the project and called on the ingenuity and innovation of the American people—not just in the private sector but also in the public sector."
But Kennedy should have because a natural by-product of competition is innovation. Don't dig too deeply into the nitty gritty of the old Gemini/Mercury/Apollo programs, because you will discover that lack of competition stifled creative innovation and prolonged development, and may have cost lives. It does not surprise us that a closet socialist with Marxist leanings like Barack Obama would turn to big monolithic Government to solve a problem (and in doing so make it worse). It should worry The Stupid Nation that this is Obama's answer to McCain's call to incentivize innovation.
The Stupid Nation should be listening - if that is the best The Unqualified Candidate can come up with - be very afraid for the future of the United States with Barack Obama as President.
We have more bad news for the Ignorant Candidate. The United States Government has largely disgorged the intellectual/engineering/scientific talent into the private sector since the go-go 60's. In those days if you were an engineer you worked directly or indirectly for the Government. Those days are over dude. There aren't enough millionaires in the nation to tax to death in order to restore that cadre. The private sector is where the brain power is. Of course, there was more brain power around before the advent of outsourcing high skilled jobs to slave-labor nations, but that is another post. We would really love to hear Obama's grand ideas on how to get those science and engineering jobs back in the US. The important point here is that Mr. Clueless really doesn't have a blessed idea where these technology solutions come from. It would be charming, if the guy was not running for President of the United States.
BTW, note to both McCain and Obama - the US Military has had a $1,000,000 prize on the table for anyone - public or private - to come up with a new innovative personal power source for combat soldiers. The Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment (MOLLE) Vest must provide 20W average power for 96 hours with peak power requirements of up to 200W for periods of 5 minutes. All components, including the generation, storage, electronics and connections must weigh 4kg or less. Thus far, no winners we know of.
Psst - don't tell Obama that the Federal Government is already offering the private sector cash incentives to innovate power solutions. We're sure he would be shocked and horrified.
