There has been something rattling around in the recesses of our mind that was 're-awakened' by our work on the previous blog piece.   As we touched on in The Enemy Within, President George Bush was accused by some in Congress of "misleading" that illustrious body into war with Iraq.  Others in Congress outright declared Bush intentionally lied to Congress about the Iraqi nuclear weapons program, and should be impeached.

To remind our viewing audience (and we do appreciate you all taking time out to read our humble blog), President Bush's principle reason for removing Hussien from power was his lust for nukes.  There were other reasons mentioned - possible terror connections,  the lesser mass killing weapons such as chemical weapons, which as we noted earlier Hussien positively possessed, since he used them on his own people (and the Iranians as well).  But , everybody remembers the nuclear threat as the lynch-pin of the argument for war.

Since then the paranoid loon fringe within The Stupid Nation, and across the globe, have proposed one dark absurdly implausible conspiracy theory after another for Bush, and his supposedly masterful deception to get the United States into an "unjust" war.  Of course, our personal favorite of the paranoid delusions coming from these people is that it was George Bush who was the actual perpetrator of Osama Bin Laden's terror attack on the World Trade Center in NYC.  This always draws out a guffaw.

We here at TheStupidNation.com would like to think we are not afflicted by the paranoid delusion bug.  Yet we wonder about an odd coincidence that we have not heard mentioned anywhere - not by any bloggers we follow, and certainly not by any 'mainstream' media outlet we know of....

You see, we find it very interesting that a relatively short time after the fall of Hussein's Iraq, and the humiliated Bush Administration not being able to produce any meaningful evidence of an active nuke program - well, the Israelis for some strange reason violated Syrian airspace and bombed "an empty military warehouse" deep inside Syria.   As it turns out, despite the repeated denials of the Syrian Government, lo and behold the Syrians had a secret nuke program.  And just as with the 1981 Iraqi program, the Israelis did the world (and themselves) a favor, and blew it up.

We're not paranoid, it's just a coincidence that after Iraq fell, a secret nuke program popped up in neighboring Syria..........pure coincidence.  It would seem like getting hold of the Iraqi nuclear program is akin to grabbing a wet bar of radioactive soap.

07-Jul Update - How ironic that on the day this piece was written news stories began popping up regarding the secret sale and shipment of Saddam Hussein's stockpile of 550 metric tons of uranium yellowcake.  Of course we are fully aware that this was a known stockpile that predates the Iraq War, however, it is also a stark reminder of Hussein's nuclear ambitions.  We have no doubt that left to his own devices, Hussein would have reconstituted his nuke program in a heartbeat.  That he was trying, then unsuccessfully, to do so when the US removed him from power.  Another sobering thought - without the Iraq War to remove Hussein, we would have been facing not one but two middle eastern countries in hot pursuit of the ultimate terror weapon.  We call this phenomena an "arms race".  You can bet your sweet behind that Hussein would not have sat by while his bitter enemy the Iranian's were working hard to acquire fissionable material.  So, for all of Obama's belly-aching about the Iraq War being a "strategic mistake"....not.
