A couple weeks ago the sleazy gossip rag, The National Enquirer, followed former Senator and presumptive Vice President hopeful John Edwards into a posh California hotel, and subsequently chased him around the place until Edwards barricaded himself in a public bathroom.

He was outed as a philanderer.  This is not of and by itself particularly notable, or even significant.  Without knowing for certain who, we do know for certain that the two-time Presidential hopeful is not alone in Washington, DC as a two-timing husband.  And there have been celebrated incidents in the past - Senator Gary Harts' infamous campaign collapse after daring the media to out him as a philanderer - they did..... President Clinton and his forever notorious, and sadly historic, encounter with an intern in the Oval Office. 

Henry Kissinger was once quoted as saying "Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac".  We believe it.

Edwards was supposed to be the quintessential "family man".  Perhaps that's still true - after all, he has two families running concurrently these days.  So, it's safe to say he's a big family man.

We find it fascinating how the leftist press gave Edwards to totally free pass on this scandal.  The only major news outlet to publish the salacious claims was Fox News.  Even after Edwards' ill-fated news conference the next day, when he was asked about the Hilton-gate incident.  His answer was so awfully insincere that we fully expected a neon sign to drop out of the ceiling flashing a 'Guilty' sign.  Nope, not a peep out of the leftist press.  Their poster-boy for clean liberal living was in deep trouble, and they were doing what they could to help.  The LA Times even went so far as to restrain the free speech of it's bloggers by ordering them not to blog about the accusation.  There have been plenty of other incidents of the liberal press pouncing all over sleazy news first broken by a gossip rag.  The air is thick with hypocrisy.  We can't help but enjoy the press getting caught with it's bias so....um.....nakedly exposed.  Why would they do it?  After all, they butt-raped Gary Hart for his cheating ways.  The answer: because the leftist press is positively desperate to get a liberal in the White House, and they did not want to do anything to harm the cause.  The chance for a liberal President, liberal controlled Senate, and liberal controlled House is too enticing to resist, and the temptation to bury bad news that might block it from happening - well, these people are only liberal humans.   We don't expect much, and we weren't disappointed.

So, to the chagrin of the leftist press the world over, Edwards finally fessed up.  Ok fine, but we were immediately suspicious of his claim the kid wasn't his, as he invited a paternity test.   We here at the TheStupidNation.com  guessed that the 'other woman' would then solemnly refuse to participate in such a test.  Lo and behold, that's exactly what happened.  Since the story broke, an associate of Edwards has claimed the kid is his.  But that just opens up so many nasty questions about this woman being passed around Campaign HQ....well, we will just leave it at that.

Once again we have a textbook example of the ego-ravaged being all-consumed by self.  Those who ignore history are inevitably condemned to repeat it.  Welcome to the footnotes of Political History Mr. Edwards.  Sucks to be you.
