The Little Guy Just Got Littler

(editor's note:  The following is a guest posting. We hope to see more guest postings from "Captain Nemo")

Yes Stupid Nation, the person that makes the minimum wage. The person that works 2 or 3 jobs. The woe begotten people that the Democrats say they are for, and that the evil Republicans are against, has gotten smaller. We all know that gasoline prices have risen for a variety of reasons, but the Democrats refuse any attempt by the Republicans to begin drilling offshore and/or the ANWAR region in Alaska (God forbid the odd caribou gets spooked at the sight of an oil rig). But, the stalwart champion of the little guy, and Democrat cheerleader, Nancy Pelosi, will not relent, nor will the EPA.

The EPA is refusing to back off of its Ethanol requirements, and claims that it is "strengthening our nation's energy security and supporting American farming communities," – so says Stephen Johnson of the EPA. He forgot to add “crushing poor Americans at the gas pump, and at the supermarket cash register”. The farmers are in favor of keeping both subsidies and the standards in place (hmm - we wonder why that is?).  You can read the full article here

This, ladies and gentlemen of the Stupid Nation, is called “Social Engineering”.  Make a class of Americans entirely dependent on you, and you will own them to the end.  Ethanol subsidies have directly contributed to a sharp jump in food prices.  Why?  Because farmers can get more money for their crops from the energy industry than they can from the food industry, so less food for eating, and more subsidized fuel for driving results in a squeeze on food prices.   Thus, we all get doubly screwed by the Government that We The People placed in power.  Note to the McCain Campaign: Crucify the Democrats on this issue. Hammer home that Democrats, the self-proclaimed champions of the little people, have screwed their economically oppressed charges.  No wish to help the poor.  Perhaps Obama can help them out by mailing a free tire pressure gage to all low income families.  They could over-inflate their tires with Obama hot air, and float along – saving huge quantities of fuel, and money.

Until there is a comprehensive energy policy in this nation, the economy of the United States will always be vulnerable. We need to use reliable, cheap, efficient, and time tested technologies rather than unknown, inefficient, and very expensive technologies using exotic and untested materials. As of right now the energy policy of the United States looks like a stunned duck waddling about directionless.  And based on the quacking coming out of the Obama camp – we don’t see rational “change” coming should he make it into the White House.
