Today was a special day.  Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, introduced a colossal $825 Billion "stimulus" plan to Congress.  A commercial airliner successfully belly landed on the frigid Hudson River between New York and New Jersey, and President Bush wished us all farewell.

We wonder if the US economy is going to do a graceful belly flop after the Democrats spend their way to inevitable implosion.  We already know the answer unfortunately - the US economy will die sort of like a currency super-nova - it will blow up, then collapse on itself.   The actions today, and the words of our soon to be President, leave us wondering:  Are they stupid, dumb, or is it something more sinister?

The Republicans are no angels, and even though they participated in deficit spending fiscal year after year, they are having a hard time swallowing the gargantuan borrow and spend strategy.  Maybe there is hope for them yet.

It is incredible.  In the midst of a financial crisis, what in the world does one do when government itself is swept up in a toxic tide of irrational behavior?    It's one problem when the financial markets get hammered as the irrational investor herd runs to and fro.  It's a far greater problem when Government descends into the chaos, and turns panic and uncertainty into doom and certain self-destruction.

Are they REALLY this stupid?
