We realize that the party National Committee Chairman is largely a public relations/ceremonial position with a relatively fat paycheck - be it Democrat or Republican.

However, when we read that former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele had been elected RNC Chair, we grooooooaned.   Come on!   This isn't leadership, this isn't the Republican Party re-planting the American Flag at the steps on the Capitol building and declaring "Nyet!" to the Marxist/socialists on the march, vowing to defend individual rights and the capitalist system to the last conservative standing.  This is just a stupid, transparent marketing ploy.

We don't know Mr Steele.  We read that he is a "moderate" conservative (whatever that is), and the fact that he is African American and any type of conservative is somewhat remarkable.  But, we are stuck on perception here (a rarity for us)....that the Party deliberately went shopping for an African American front man as a P/R ploy.  We hate ploys and games.  Isn't there enough of that going on in Washington already?

Sheesh.

We still have hope for the Republicans.  The display if unity by House republicans in the face of fiscal insanity was encouraging.  But still, we look over the Washington landscape searching for a leader, and we still see no one.  Will Mr. Steele be that voice?  P/R stunt not withstanding, we hope so. 

We hope so.
