Nine Years Into the New Millennium Racism Is Still With Us
Over the course of the last two days, there were two different article links on The Drudge Report. This first details what seemed to be an outrageous act of blatant racism by a swim club in Pennsylvania, and the second was an apparent attack on a small group by a gang of teens.
In the first case an NBC network affiliate in Philadelphia posted an internet piece on an incident where 60 kids, mostly black and hispanic from inner city Philly, were summarily booted out of a private swim club that had entered into an agreement with a local camp to allow for the use of their pool facilities. The article went on to cite some witnesses who claimed that one or more club members complained about so many black kids at the facility. While we fully understand that this is hearsay, and can't be taken at face value, a swim club official poured gasoline on a fire with this quote from NBC/Philly:
""There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion … and the atmosphere of the club," John Duesler, President of The Valley Swim Club said in a statement."
Ouch. Hard to misinterpret that statement (open mouth, insert big hairy smelly foot).
However, in fairness to the club for which one or two members and one official do not constitute a quorum of total membership, the group that oversees the swim club operations have issued a strong denial to NBC/Philly that their club is a haven for racists and racism.
The other incident in reverse occurred in Ohio where a small group of white people - a family and a couple of friends were apparently accosted by a group of black teens who were quoted by Ohio.com as declaring the area "our world" and "a black world". A brawl ensued between the teens and the small group. We know the first pass at reports of these sorts of altercations are usually inaccurate, so just was with the strong denial in the swim-gate caper, we accept there is a possibility that some sort of antagonism between the two groups might of occurred.
OK so we've acknowledged the possibility that neither of these seemingly outrageous incidents may actually be as outrageous they appear, but still.....it doesn't look good.
Our point here is this: racism is stupid, and stupid is as stupid does in a stupid nation. The 'I hate you just because your a different ethnicity than me' racism is a one of the purest forms of stupidity going. To whatever extent either of these incidents are true, it is maddening that in The Year of Our Lord 2009, we still have this kind of societal ball-and-chain being dragged around by the absolute dumbest among us.
White on black racism and reverse black on white racism are mutual expressions of profound ignorance. We here at TheStupidNation.com are fierce advocates of the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America, which means racists have a right to express their profound ignorance, though they do not have the inherent human right to discriminate arbitrarily based on ethnicity, much less beat people up just because.
However, the First Amendment also affords us the right to say that, if these two incidents are true, these people in PA and OH are profoundly ignorant morons.
And speaking of morons, we suspect that Swim club is already looking for a new President.
