Of Tying Shoelaces

Continuing our previous blog item where we observed the Obama Administration's difficulties....I guess I have to admit I was wrong. It's not that the Obama Administration can't tie their own shoes, it's that they often succeed in tying those pesky laces together. Perhaps they should switch en-mass to loafers - those would be more fitting too.
- Attorney General Holder admits he never read the Arizona immigration law, which he's publicly criticized. He says all he knows about the law is what has been published in the press. And, of course, what was published in the liberal press was almost entirely misleading, at best. Mr. Holder has therefore demonstrated a breach of fidicary duty by questioning the Constitutionality of a law he never read, contributing to the hysteria surrounding what is otherwise a non-issue. Unlike the Attorney General, I have read the law, and there is nothing in it that promotes racial profiling.
- Our Department of Homeland Security 'Czar' Janet Napolitano admitted she hasn't read the law originating from her home state either, but goes on to blithely insist she would never have signed in a law of that "ilk", whatever that ilk may be we are left to wonder. I guess she relied on AG Holders 'assessment' to draw her conclusions. Rush Limbaugh issued an hilarious assessment of Ms. Napolitano a few weeks back - of the DHS Secretary he said this: "I can be pretty tough on male politicos, but if I get tough on females other than Hillary, "Rush, don't you think you're being a little too hard on Janet Napolitano?" And actually, I think I'm being quite kind and restrained. Folks, the dirty little secret about Secretary Napolitano, if brains were made out of wool she couldn't knit leggings for a canary. We're dealing here with vacancy between the two ears that is unprecedented at such a high level of power.
- Meantime President Obama cracks wise at Arizona and it's new law. By now it fairly obvious that the President has no idea how to unite even two slices of bread with peanut butter, but it is clear he know how to divide people. Seventy percent of the people of Arizona support the Arizona law. So when you make fun of 70% of an entire State's population.....that's going to come back to haunt you over and over and over when the next Presidential election cycle comes. Note that it's ok to make vulgar references to Tea Party activists, because they will never vote for Obama, but within that 70% favorable demographic in state, and a 60% favorable nationally - there's and awful lot of democrats in there too. And I don't think many outside the beltway appreciated Obama's wisecracks. When you're President, you not supposed to act like a crude Chicago street organizing thug, you're supposed to play the role and act....Presidential.
- Speaking of Obama, the President came out swinging at Big Oil for the "spectacle" during the Congressional hearings regarding the Great Gulf Oil Spill. Well, it seems to me that this spectacle was created by a liberal congress looking to roast Big Oil to their political advantage. So, I ask, whose "spectacle" was it anyway? It seems to me that our liberal Congress is responsible for the "spectacle" and it is perfectly natural to those summoned to the arena to want to defend themselves. From what the experts have said, the catastrophic failure which occurred on the drilling rig was the result of a confluence of events which led to a disastrous accumulation of explosive gas in the wrong place at the wrong time. That's usually how man-made disasters happen. It's usually not a single point of failure, but a combination of events that leads to wreck and ruin. Human Beings are by nature fallible. Accidents of every shape and size can and do happen. So far, I haven't read or seen anything that suggests this incident was willful. Now the "spectacle" is turning on itself and the Obama Administration is in the hot seat to explain what the did or didn't do to either prevent this disaster or mitigate it. The answer to both questions is really going to be 'not much'. And that's ok (not withstanding the scathing criticism George W. Bush received from liberals for not doing enough in the aftermath of Katrina). But what is not ok, at least to me, is that supposedly a poll came out showing that Obama got "high marks" on his handling of the crisis. But.....what the hec did he actually do? Even the DHS Secretary as much as admitted they are largely in a watch from the side-lines mode on this one. So Obama gets high marks for criticizing Big Oil and doing almost nothing.
- And what is up with the Obama Administration suddenly sounding like die-hard "neo-cons"? Supposedly the Obama Administration has ok'd the assassination without trial, Miranda rights, Habeas corpus, due process, etc etc of US Citizens abroad who the NSC/CIA believes are terrorists. Rather breathtaking considering the heaping almost rabid criticism of the left toward the Bush Admin's policies regarding the treatment of terrorists. And to further the muddying of the waters....AG Holder is talking about suspending all or part of the Miranda warning requirements for terrorists? If it were GW proposing that, the left would have gone apoplectic by now. Perhaps Obama can kill two birds with one stone - have the Miranda warning on the right to remain silent stenciled on to the tip of the CIA's Hellfire drone missiles. Maybe.....
- Recently about the only thing that has gone relatively well for Obama is his nomination of law professor Ms. Kagan to the soon to be vacant seat on the US Supreme Court. That Ms Kagen is a liberal is no surprise to anyone. That Ms. Kagen is either a Socialist in fact, or a socialist sympathizer is also hard for me not to believe. The great irony that Ms. Kagen has no judicial experience, as Harriet Miers didn't, is great fun. There has been much written about the parallels between the two nominations. The thing I appreciate most is that it is now clear that it wasn't the fact that Harriet Miers had no judicial experience that was the heart of the issue - it was that Harriet Miers wasn't a far left liberal with no judicial experience. Of course! How could we possibly not have realized this at the time! It will be interesting to see what the ABA has to say about this nominee when their evaluation of her qualifications is complete.
- Back to the Arizona illegal alien law. The Obama Administration succeeded in another round of international public humiliation by using the Arizona legislation as a supposed example of human rights problems within the US to our pals in China. If AG Holden hasn't read the law, and former Governor of Arizona DHS Secretary Napolitano hasn't read the law, and you can bet your favorite pair of laced shoes Obama hasn't read the law - then who the hell is this guy Posner telling the Chinese that this law violates human rights? Do you think Posner read the law? If you do, the Brooklyn Bridge is back up for sale on Ebay. These people are all clowns.
- Today Obama signs some stupid law about Press Freedom. And during the ceremony he declined to take questions from the press! It was notable, however, that Obama did grin when his own hypocrisy was pointed out to him by a member of the Press Corps on hand for the heartwarming ceremony. So ask yourself this: Why is Obama afraid to talk to the press? He is clearly avoiding the press these days. The answer may be this: The prolonged honeymoon with the liberal press may very well be drawing to a close.
- Last note - speaking of humiliation.....one word: Iran. Totally pathetic.
