Retiring Marine Commandant General James T. Conway recently acknowledged that President Obama's pre-set troop withdrawal from Afghanistan was providing aid and comfort to our Taliban enemy.  With the predictability of the Sun rising, Obama's withdrawal deadline encouraged the Taliban to keep up their attacks and to hang on until the arbitrary deadline had passed, and Conway admitted that intelligence reports corroborate that the Taliban leadership is using the Obama deadline to rally it's troops.

Unlike the recent furor set off by comments made by now-retired General Stanley McCrystal, who appeared to want out and decided to take the blaze of glory route, the comments by General Conway have received a fairly muted response.  Perhaps this is because General Conway is already set to retire - there isn't much they can do to him at this point.

Of course, General Conway chose his words a little more carefully than General McCrystal, but in the end, he admitted that Obama had aided our enemy by setting this arbitrary line in the desolate earth of Afghanistan.  Conway also remarked that it is unlikely we will be able to march out of the country by Obama's magic date. 

No doubt that when the deadline comes and goes, Obama will blame it all on George Bush, and delay the troops departure.

So what is to be done with a President that provides our enemies with aid and comfort, placing our own troops at greater risk along the way?  Is it treasonous?  There is so little legal precedent on the matter of treason that it's hard to say.  From reading the treason clause in Article III Section 3 of the US Constitution, I would have to guess no, but just barely.

Article III, Section 3:  "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying Waragainst them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid andComfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on theTestimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession inopen Court.  The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted."

Obama has clearly provided aid and comfort to the Taliban, but it can't be asserted that he has 'adhered' to the Taliban.

I have said often enough that I believe that Obama is tracking to be the worst President in the history of the United States.  Certainly worse than George Bush, worse than Jimmy Carter, and on a clear trajectory to unseat James Buchanan, who is currently regarded by most historians as the worst of the worst.   It's a bit interesting that Obama is on his way to vying with Buchanan for the bottom spot, since in Buchanan's day, many had high hopes for him.  Buchanan was regarded as one of the smartest guys ever to be President, and the nation had very high hopes for his presidency, only to see them all dashed, and the nation left so divided that soon after Buchanan left office, the nation plunged into bloody civil war.  Obama too is regarded by many as sharp as a tack (which I strongly suspect is false), and certainly a multitude had exceptionally high hopes for the Obama Presidency.  Hopes that were dashed, and are in the process of being crushed.  And Obama has turned out not to be a uniter, as promised, but a race-baiting class warfare waging divider.  As I warned repeatedly during the presidential election, people were foolishly putting their hopes in an empty vessel, hoping Obama would rule from the center and do great things while ignoring/disbelieving the clear signs of his leftist bent.

Now America is slowly awakening to who Obama really is - a leftist radical and political thug .  It's up to us to right this wrong.  May we choose our next President with less blind hope, and more wisdom.
