Racism Alive and Well in the United States
Here I am dipping a toe, foot and possibly an ankle into controversial waters.......
A Gallup poll came out that claimed 91% of African Americans support President Obama, while only 36 percent of whites support him. So I ask you, did white voters support George Bush because he was white, or because they preferred him over Al Gore or John Kerry? Or is it that those whites who voted for John McCain were all die-hard racial bigots? If white voters voted along racial lines, it would have been impossible for Obama to win the Presidential election. In fact, if white voters voted based on race, there would not be a non-white President of the United States for many years to come.
Yet, apparently race seems to be a chief factor in how African Americans cast their vote. I find it rather hard to believe that all but 9% of all African American population really think Obama is doing a bang up job, especially since the African American community is among the hardest hit by the current economic mess (unless they all bought the left-wing propaganda that it's George Bush's fault). Maybe this is just an instance where African Americans as a whole are just not willing to admit publicly that the nation's first African American President blew it, and continues to blow it.
In my previous posting, How To Win Enemies, and Alienate Voters , I noted John Kerry's complaint about voter apathy and insinuated stupidity by casting votes based on catchy campaign slogans and the like. Well, the hard truth is that if voters in this country cast their vote based primarily on race, they are just as dumb, maybe dumber, as those who relied on sound bites, headline browsing, and catchy slogans to determine their candidate of choice.
As I have oft stated here on this blog, an ignorant populace cannot sustain a democracy. And if indeed we have really witnessed an historical aberration based primarily on the race of the candidate....it makes me wonder if we are already too far gone to salvage, and our national fate is sealed. I can only hang on to hope that there is yet time to right the ship, and that many African Americans know Obama is a failure, but are just unwilling to admit it publicly.
