Thomas Sowell is Right (not that he needed me to say so)
Thomas Sowell is a man I greatly admire. Though I must say I don't agree with him all the time, his latest blog post nails the subject matter - politicized judges.
Yet that is not what I am typing away after midnight to comment on. In his essay, Mr. Sowall comments: "The Constitution cannot protect us unless we protect the Constitution....."
That comment sort of hit me in a way that, if you had a pair of Buckeroo Banzai goggles, you could see me walking around all day with an exclamation point hovering over my head.
He's absolutely right. A brilliantly crafted modern day 'sound bite' (so to speak).
Although Mr. Sowell offered this in the context of revisionist Judges who are piece by piece dismantling the legal and social ideals that made this country what it is, his comment that we must protect the Constitution of the United States in order for it to protect us is applicable across the board.
I have been railing away on this blog against these outrageous and unconstitutional searches the Federal Government has been doing at airports. If we don't want to be irradiated and electronically stripped searched, then the alternate gauntlet we are being ordered to comply with is an equally unappealing 'option': the groping of genitals and breasts (if so equipped) - be it man, woman or child. In common parlance it's called sexual assault.
In order for the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution of the United States to protect us, WE must protect it.
Mr. Sowell, brilliantly succinct, is absolutely correct.
This weekend, a man named John Tyner stood up and protected the Constitution at a San Diego airport. He stood his ground amid acts of intimidation and threats of hefty (and equally unconstitutional) "civil" fines. I salute him.
We ALL need to stand up and protect the Constitution: refuse the strip search, and refuse the groping. Bring air travel to a halt.
