Footnotes
Time is short, so a few notes here and there
- State of the Union campaign rally: Epic fail. All those lib media types purring over an awful mess. It like critiquing the orchestra on the Titanic as the ship slowly slid under. Cliff notes: The State of the Union is awful, there are huge hurdles in front of us that Obama has no idea how to deal with. Obama reaffirms that he is functionally illiterate on economics, and the guy actually praises China right after their beloved pianist belted out a huge insult to the entire nation from the Whitehouse itself. The Republicans don't need 'can't we all get along'. They need to come out swinging, and remind Americans every day what this President is all about.
- Snow in the Northeast again. I am weary of snow, but I guess I shouldn't say that because long range forecasting says there is more snow in our future before this already memorable winter is over.
- Here is a very curious quote from an article on the airport bombing in Moscow. The article was on the USA Today wire, authored by Alan Levin, and titled Terrorists look to unprotected parts of airports (ya think?). In this article is the following passage: "The Transportation Security Administration has deployed specially trained agents looking for suspicious behavior. Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., has raised questions about their effectiveness." SO...Breaking news: deploying "specially trained" agents looking for suspicious behavior is called profiling. So TSA has been secretly profiling all along, and according to the Congressman, not doing a very good job of it. No one else seems to have picked up on this little tidbit. Also note that unlike other air travel related attacks, the TSA has been fairly mum. I haven't seen the usual, 'our ineffective system 'works', please go back to sleep' statement from DHS or TSA.
- On so-called birthers. You know, this stuff with the left of left Governor of Hawaii rekindling doubts about Obama's country of birth is very odd. The latest development is a reporter was quoted as saying he was told directly by the Governor that there were no birth records for Obama being born in Hawaii, then retracted his statement, saying he "misspoke" - meaning he lied his ass off. But why? The whole thing seems very odd - the left seems to be trying to keep this story in the news for some reason - to egg the conspiracy theorists on? They think there is something to be gained politically here? There is something strange about this, in an uneasy feeling way.
- Lastly - back to snow. Favorite sledding hills around the State of NJ are being shut down because of lawsuits filed by people injured in a tragic sledding mishaps. Whatever happened to 'at your own risk'? I guess the principle of undertaking a physical activity at your own risk has been erased by trial lawyers desperate for clients. Now here's an opportunity for effective legislation: When an 'at your own risk sign' is posted, those who subsequently take their own risk can't sue. Case closed.
