The Obama Doctrine
It seems every President gets one....a 'doctrine' for their own to be referred to by pundits, "journalists", historians and the like. Bush had his - a mixed bag of preventative war, spreading democracy around the world, especially the middle east, and unilateral military action where needed. Clinton had his, which basically justified interventionism around the globe where American interests were at stake, or it was just the right thing to do (Rwanda not withstanding).
So Obama now has his. As with George Bush's mixed bag of policies comprising a doctrine, the Obama Doctrine is going to wind up being a mixed bag of leftist policy. Of those policies, one that may boil to the top of the list would be the castration of the United States in the International community. I have already discussed the now legendary World Apology Tour, as have many others, but the Libyan military action undertaken by Obama has a multitude of disturbing elements to it, most of which have not gotten their proper due in a media geared to gloss over Obama's more controversial activities.
Rather than entirely repeat what others have said already, I am going to point towards David Limbaugh's blog for his analysis of what I call the Obama Doctrine, because of the critiques I've read, I think Mr. Limbaugh hit the nail on the head.
Had Obama's actions of near unilateral military intervention in Libya, plus the deliberate failure to consult Congress, and lastly, an astonishing failure to explain his actions to the American people until withering criticism from the left and the right forced him to do so....had these actions been undertaken by George Bush, the press would have gone bug-eyed, demanding impeachment. Instead we saw a bunch of soft sell articles rationalizing the borderline dictatorial behavior of Obama. The failure to consult Congress should have triggered at the very least, a court challenge to what the lawyers call the Unitary Executive. Unitary executive thought suggests the President has virtually unlimited powers to direct the activity of the Executive Branch, which includes the military. However, if that's the case, the President could theoretically initiate nuclear war with a press of a button, and no one else would have a say. Hardly what most people would expect. There are limits to the Unitary Presidency, and it's high time to set them.
Posterity is normally the final arbiter of a President's ranking among his peers. However, in this case, I don't need no stinkin' posterity to know that Obama is the worst President in the history of the country. We have about a year and a half to go before the 2012 election. Obama can still do a hell of a lot of damage between now and then.
We must hold the Republics feet to the fire, or we've all had it.
