What's Wrong With This Picture

Remember the Fast & Furious gun runner scandal?  Where the ATF was deliberately allowing one or more Mexican drug cartels to purchase weapons in the US and smuggle them back home up until a Border Patrol agent was murdered with one of these guns?

Well, the three most directly responsible agents at the ATF for managing this "program" were promoted.  Meanwhile, the Agent that blew the whistle on the program was fired.

The ATF has quickly issued a denial of the promotions, saying that just because they look like promotions doesn't mean they actually are.  ATF claims these are all lateral position moves.

Uh huh.

Well, if I were a conspiracy theorist, I would wonder if the Fast and Furious gun runner program wasn't a covert operation to actually arm a perhaps 'friendly' cartel against 'unfriendly' rivals.  In other words, is this Obama's Iran/Contra?  When it comes to illegal drugs, the amount of cash in play boggles the mind.  Who is to say if one of these so-called drug lords managed to penetrate deeply into the US Law Enforcement machinery to set up a supply of weapons.  Of course, I have no way of knowing either way, but at least it would make a good plot for a book or action flick.

Maybe someday the truth will emerge, because the current stack of 'I didn't know' and 'nobody told me' disclaimers simply have no credibility whatsoever.
